Read the green, not the guesswork
BreakTrace measures the surface in front of you and draws the line where the putt actually goes.
What it does
Slope you can see
Reading a green is an estimate made with the naked eye, from a low angle, on a surface whose slope is often well under two degrees. BreakTrace replaces that estimate with a measurement.
The app uses the LiDAR sensor and camera on a compatible iPhone to build a model of the putting surface in front of you, then renders the slope and the resulting break directly onto the green through the camera view. You see the contour of the surface and the line the ball should take.
How it works
Scan, read, putt
Point the phone at the green and move along the intended line. The app builds the surface as you go. Mark the ball and the hole, and BreakTrace solves for the line and the pace required, then draws both onto the surface.
All scanning and solving happens on the device, in real time. Camera frames, depth data, and the resulting geometry are never transmitted — there are no accounts and no analytics. See the privacy policy for the detail.
Before you use it
Know the rules for your round
Devices that measure slope or gauge a green are restricted or prohibited during competitive play under the Rules of Golf, and by many clubs and events. BreakTrace is built for practice, training, and casual rounds where such devices are permitted.
You are responsible for knowing the rules that apply to your round. Readings are estimates for training purposes; accuracy depends on light, surface condition, device hardware, and how the scan was taken. The full terms of service set this out.
Availability
In development
BreakTrace requires an iPhone with a LiDAR scanner. The app is in active development and field testing and is not yet available on the App Store.
